The importance of Gibraltar
was recognised by the Committee of Lloyd's when,
in 1811, the Lloyd's Agency system was established.
Among the earliest (39th) appointments made was of James
Ross Oxberry as Agent at Gibraltar on the
4th December 1811. After several changes, Smith Imossi
& Co. were appointed to the post on 30 January
1884, and this year celebrate the 118 anniversary of
our association with Lloyd's.
Not only are surveys held in connection
with claims on Lloyd's Policies and Certificates,
and claims settled thereon when the policy conditions
make suitable provisions, but a similar service is performed
for the Institute of London Underwriters, the Comite
Central de Assureurs Maritimes de France and many
insurance companies worldwide. The company regularly act
for the London Salvage Association and an Agency
is held for Lloyd's Register of Shipping to care
for various classification matters. |
